The Custard Institute is pleased to announce that the recipient of the inaugural Mark A. Roglán Publication Award is Prof. Claudia Hopkins for the catalogue Romantic Spain. David Roberts and Genaro Pérez Villaamil (2021).

This award, in the amount of $2,500, recognizes exemplary scholarship on Spanish art from 1820 to 1920.

Interview with Anna Ficek: Porcelain Princess

Anna Ficek

Anna Ficek is the inaugural postdoctoral fellow at SMU’s Custard Institute of Spanish Art and Culture at the Meadows Museum. A native of Katowice, Poland, she recalls a love for reading novels from an early age, particularly illustrated ones. In our interview, Ficek noted a quote she holds close to her heart from one of her favorite childhood novels, Alice in Wonderland, that states, “I’m sorry, but how can one possibly pay attention to a book with no pictures in it?”

New Institute for Spanish Art and Culture inspires a New Chapter for SMU’s Meadows Museum DALLAS (SMU)— August 26, 2021— Linda P. and William A. Custard committed $3 million today, matched by an additional $3 million from The Meadows Foundation, to establish a new cultural institute within the Meadows Museum.
