Viola by Candlelight

Albert Coronado Daza, Principal Viola, Symphony Orchestra of the Gran Teatre del Liceu, Barcelona

Enjoy a candlelight concert by Spanish violist Albert Coronado Daza and pianist Dongni Xie while surrounded by works of art in the museum’s Gene and Jerry Jones Great Hall.

Albert Coronado Daza began his musical training at the age of six at the Escola de Música Enric Granados Music School in Sant Joan Despí (Barcelona). He attended the Conservatori Professional de Música de Badalona and earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees at the Conservatori Superior de Música del Liceu. Coronado has won awards in numerous prestigious national and international competitions, both as a soloist and in chamber music. He has given solo recitals in venues throughout Spain and has been the principal viola of the symphony orchestra of the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona since 2020.

Dongni Xie is the first prize winner of multiple international piano competitions, one of the guest artists of the prestigious Cliburn Foundation, and one of the Legacy Pianists of the renowned Achúcarro Foundation. Dr. Xie earned degrees and diplomas from the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University, the University of Southern California, the University of North Texas, and Southern Methodist University. She is a Legacy Pianist of the Achúcarro Foundation. Dr. Xie has been invited to lecture at universities and colleges throughout the United States and Asia, is a college professor, and is a regularly invited judge at piano competitions across the globe.

This program is offered in collaboration with the Cultural Office of the Embassy of Spain in Washington, DC, and the Meadows Chamber Music program at the Meadows School of the Arts.

$10; free for SMU students and Meadows Museum members at the Goya/Individual levels and above.
