Member Meetup | William Randolph Hearst: A Collector’s Eye on Spain
April 24, 2025 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm CDT
FreePublishing tycoon William Randolph Hearst’s passion for Spanish art, and his collecting patterns, helped shape global perceptions of Spain’s cultural heritage. Join Cristina Sol Aldrich, the Meadows Museum’s 2023–2024 Center for Spain in America (CSA) Curatorial Fellow, for a discussion of the connection between Hearst, Meadows Museum founder Algur H. Meadows, and Luis A. Ferré, founder of the Museo de Arte de Ponce. Ferré’s acquisition of “King Candaules” by Jean-Léon Gérôme, currently on view, will serve as an example of the remarkable works collected by these important figures, underscoring their shared dedication to preserving European art. For members at the Goya Friend/Individual level and above. Email invitation to follow. To join, call 214.768.2765.
