ARTafterDARK: SMU College Night
September 19, 2024 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm CDT
FreeSince 2018, the Meadows Museum has celebrated the start of SMU’s academic year with ARTafterDARK: SMU College Night. This social event invites SMU students into the museum after hours to enjoy a late night of art, activities, and food at the Meadows Museum with other SMU students. This year’s event features activities by SMU Craft Club, the Student Organized Art Collective (SOAC), SMU Classical Studies Club, SMU Poetry Club, and music by S.M.U.R.F. (Student Managed University Radio Frequency). The first 100 students in attendance will receive a limited-edition t-shirt designed by artist Sharmeen Uqaili. A current SMU student ID is required for admission.

Enjoy music by SMU’s college radio, S.M.U.R.F.(Student Managed University Radio Frequency).
‘FLOOR IS LAVA’ GALLERY SEEK & FIND
Gather a team (or work solo), use a spy glass to decode clues, and get a holographic prize.
DECAL DIY
Join SMU’s Student Organized Artist Collective (SOAC) to waterslide decals onto a ceramic plate to create an ARTafterDARK keepsake.
TYPEWRITER POETRY
Get a custom typewritten poem from a member of the SMU Poetry Club or channel your inner poet and type your own.
LAVA STONE BRACELETS
While the people of Pompeii might disagree, lava stone is said to have curative qualities. Test this theory by creating your own lava stone bracelet with the SMU Craft Club.
MARVELOUS MOSAICS
Make a Roman-inspired mosaic coaster with members of SMU’s Classical Studies Club.

PINK FLOYD: LIVE IN POMPEII
Experience the 1972 concert film featuring Pink Floyd performing at the ancient Roman amphitheater in Pompeii.

Enjoy a dessert bar inspired by the places featured in the museum’s fall exhibitions – volcanoes, Italy, and Southern Spain. Indulge in honey-soaked filo pastries, volcanoes of cake bites, and a biscotti bar.
