Member Meetup Runaway Bride
Member Meetups provide exclusive opportunities to explore works of art in a relaxed and engaging atmosphere. This October, discover the scandal surrounding Diego Velázquez’s daughter Francisca, who was sent to Seville against her wishes after becoming engaged to the artist’s student Juan Bautista Martínez del Mazo. This love story will take us on a dramatic chase from Madrid to Seville and back again in search of Francisca, and conclude with a surprising yet happy ending. Members are invited to delve into this fascinating moment in Velázquez’s biography, starting with a half-hour presentation in the Smith Auditorium. An informal gallery visit follows, at which participants are encouraged to ask questions, share insights, and connect with fellow members.
