Visual Description

This is a 1.5-foot tall by 2-feet wide oil painting depicting, from background to foreground, a large piece of land with mountains, cliffs, and a mossy green body of water. This scene sets the viewer on the edge of a cloudy and dreary beach looking out into the landscape. Along the water, there is a figure with medium skin tone rowing a boat and working to gather materials beside them.
Along the edges of the painting, emerging from the left and right, are small grassy cliffs dotted with full trees and bushes. The cliff from the right edge reaches out to the center, where a building sits. The structure includes a tall tower with one window overlooking the drop of land to the sea.
Beyond the cliffs, in the distance background, is a mountain standing towards the center of the view and fading into the sky with clouds rolling over its peak. The sky is expansive and its bleak and muted tones take up half of the painting. The artist uses soft and blended brush strokes to create a moody feeling throughout the meeting of the sky and land.
