Visual Description

This work is a vertical portrait of a figure from the waist up, slightly smaller than life size. The light-skinned woman is turned partially to your left and gazes directly out with slightly downturned mouth and drooping brown eyes. Her large eyes and supple facial features highlight her youth. Her dark brown, ringlet curls are styled into an updo and adorned with several large white flowers at the front.
Her bodice is only lightly painted on; the neckline, bust, and puffed cap sleeves quite transparent and just distinguishable. The rest of her clothing and arms are unfinished by the artist except for a few sketchy brown lines suggesting their forms—arms gently folded over her torso—against the medium-toned brown covering the majority of the background. The background surrounding her head and neck is painted a dark blue-gray, contrasting strongly with her fair skin and light clothing.
