LUIS MARTÍN LECTURE SERIES IN THE HUMANITIES | Ancient Iberia: Crossroads of the Mediterranean
April 14, 2023 @ 10:30 am - May 5, 2023 @ 11:30 am CDT
Free – $60
P. Gregory Warden, Mark A. Roglán Director of the Custard Institute for Spanish Art and Culture
This four-part lecture series examines the rich artistic and archaeological heritage of ancient Spain in the context of the vast changes that overtook the ancient Mediterranean from prehistory to the Roman period, when the Iberian Peninsula became an integral part of the Roman Empire. History, art, archaeology, and genetics provide insights into the dynamic cultures of early Spain. We will examine those cultures while also learning how they are connected to the many others (Phoenician, Greek, Etruscan, and eventually Roman) that shaped the greater Mediterranean basin.
